March 10-13, 1976 at Earl of March Secondary School as part of Season #7 1975-1976
| Written by Jean Anouilh |
This play was produced in Paris in 1942, when France was part of Hitler's Europe and dictators and storm troops were the background of every day life. Based on the Antigone of Sophocles, whÃch was first performed in Athens in the fifth century B.C., its theme was nevertheless topical, for in Antigone's reiterated "No!" to Creon the French audience saw its own resistance to the German occupation; and the Germans allowed the play to be per formed presumably because they found Creon's arguments for dictatorship convincing.
The dates were changed to avoid Spring Break.
